Recreating my Bedroom in Unreal

After finishing my last project I decided that my next goal would be to create an Environment in Unreal Engine 5 to become more familiar with the program. Since this is my first time creating my own environment in Unreal I wanted to make the environment somewhat "simplistic" so I decided to create a interior bedroom environment based off of my bedroom.

I started this blog after I got a little bit into the project but this is what I have so far.

After I created the bed and the office chair I imported them as a test. I noticed that whatever I turbo-smoothed does not carry over to unreal but I believe there is a setting to fix that (time to do more research!).

My Thoughts So Far...

I want this environment to be a reflection of me (since it is my room) without adding too many tiny details (for right now). As far as modeling goes I really like how my bed turned out. I experimented with cloth simulations and collisions in Maya to get that messy bed comforter look. I'm planning to scan my actual sheet and comforter using adobe capture to use as textures.

As I only have one window I'm not sure what direction I want to go with my lighting. I keep flipping between a day and night scene but I'll try not to worry about that until my main assets are mostly finished. I'm considering modeling blinds and curtains to go over the window to give me more interesting god-rays. I think it would make my lighting more interesting since I only have one window in my room.

Overall I'm loving UE5's lighting system and I'm looking forward to teaching myself more about the program and how to use it as a 3D Artist!
